Please read through these care instructions for tips on how to look after your product.
LEATHER
WHAT IS LEATHER?
Leather is the combination of raw hides from animals & the process of tanning. Tanning agents are used to convert the raw skin or hide into a stable non-perishable material. Most tanneries apply complex coatings onto the leathers to increase their stain and wear resistance. The concept of good leather care is to maintain these coatings for as long as possible. When allowed to build up, grime, dust, body oils and food stains can breakdown the coatings which may change the condition and appearance of your leather item.
CHARACTERISTICS OF LEATHER
Leather is a natural material and therefore inconsistency of colour and texture is a unique characteristic. Leather is designed to age with wear, and may fade and soften over time. Coco Kitten regularly use leather with a particularly soft hand feel. It is important to note that in order to achieve this suppleness, the leather is more prone to softening and stretching over time and extra care should be taken with these types of bags. Light colour leather is prone to absorbing other dye stuffs it comes into contact with, so please take care when wearing items like denim with a light colored bag or shoes. Especially if you have a new pair of jeans, the dye is commonly still embedded in the jeans and will only come out over a number of washes through a machine. Coco Kitten cannot be liable for any dye or discolouration from other fabrics or items.
CARE TIPS
To keep your leather products looking their best, please follow the steps below.
1. PROTECTION
All leather should be protected before wearing. A good leather protector should also be applied regularly to help resist the effects of daily soiling. Remember to cover any embellishments such as metal and beading when spraying the protector. Spraying a leather protector will help to prevent light color leathers absorbing unstable dye stuffs such as denim, but this is not guaranteed by Coco Kitten. Always take extra care when wearing light colored bags with dark denim.
2. CLEANING
Most leather can be cleaned but it is important to find the correct cleaner for your leather item. You can purchase a leather cleaner from a local shoe repairer to find the most suitable product. Always test it first and remember to protect your item again after cleaning.
3. CONDITIONING
Leather conditioners/gels are only meant for occasional use. They contain fats or oils that help to lubricate the leather and replenish the suppleness. This can also be purchased from a local shoe repairer. The conditioner should NOT be used on any suede, metallic, pearlised, embossed or patent leathers. Please test it first on an inconspicuous part of the leather before applying.
4. POLISHING
Polishing is a great way to remove fingerprints and dust from your leather items, particularly high shine leathers such as patent. We recommend that you use a micro suede or soft non scratch cloth to wipe your bag and prevent scratching your item.
5. STORING
We recommend storing your leather items in the Coco Kitten cover bag when not in use. Never store any leather items in plastic as they cannot breathe and always store them in a cool, dry place away from heat.
JEWELLERY
Our jewellery has been lovingly crafted using mixed metals, beads, semi precious stones, chain and other embellishments. You will notice inconsistencies in the colour, size and pattern of the beads which is our intention. Most of our jewellery components are put together by hand. Please take care when wearing, as our beautiful pieces are very delicate. If they are dropped, stones may fall out, embellishments may break and we cannot take responsibility for any breakages that occur through rough handling.
Our mixed metal pieces have been lovingly crafted using a variety of different metals. Our non precious chains are either steel or brass. Unless specified sterling silver, the silver components we use are silver plated. Our Sterling Silver (925) pieces are clearly labeled and can be cleaned with a special sterling silver cloth to ensure they do not tarnish. Unless specified 18ct or 9ct gold, the gold components we use are gold plated. All plating of chain, earring hooks & stems are nickel free. Please take care when using personal care items such as perfume, as some metals can react to the perfume which may result in the metals tarnishing. Please store your Coco Kitten jewellery in a closed draw or lined jewellery box when not being worn.
